STRONG NATIONAL DEFENSE
I grew up in Ronald Reagan’s America and his foreign policy of “Peace through Strength” won the Cold War. Under Barack Obama, military spending has been cut $1 trillion, even as China has quadrupled their military spending, Russia continues to seek a return to their Cold War status as a superpower, and North Korea is testing hydrogen bombs. Our allies can no longer trust us, our enemies no longer fear us, radical Islamic terrorism is growing, and the Iran Nuclear deal is a ticking time bomb.
The number one job of the federal government is to defend the country against foreign enemies. I will be the strongest supporter of our military, our veterans and our borders.
The national economy is weak. Over 94 million Americans are out of work, incomes have been stagnant for years and 49% of recent college graduates are underemployed or unemployed.
The New York State economy lags even the national averages. During Rob Astorino’s gubernatorial run, I co-authored an economic plan that was called “A Plan for New York Revival” by the Wall Street Journal, adding that it would “lift the state’s flagging economy” if enacted. The plan focused heavily on cutting taxes and regulations, investing in infrastructure, accelerating hi-tech start-ups, and modernizing our workforce with the necessary skills and training.
I will advocate for similar policies in Congress and stand with the innovators, entrepreneurs and job-creators in propelling our economy forward in the 21st century. An economy that leads the world, creates good paying jobs and grows incomes.
A nation without borders is not a nation. I understand why people want to come to America but I don’t understand why we can’t secure our borders. The fact is, we can, but Barack Obama and many congressional Democrats have blocked attempts to secure the border.
Obama wanted tens of thousands of Syrian refugees resettled in America even as the FBI Director, James Comey says there is no way to properly vet them. And Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, said it is a “huge concern” that ISIS could sneak in with the refugees. There are hundreds of sanctuary cities in the U.S. yet they continue to receive federal money. Nearly half of the illegals in the country came here legally but overstayed their visas and the government has no idea where they are or how many there are. And Obama’s Executive Order granted amnesty to millions here illegally.
We need to get serious about border enforcement. I will support an E-Verify system, enhanced surveillance on the border, increased border patrol and a crackdown of sanctuary cities that refuse to comply with federal immigration law.
“A government big enough to give you everything you want, is a government big enough to take away everything that you have.” (Thomas Jefferson).
Father of the U.S. Constitution, James Madison explained, “The powers delegated… to the federal government are few and defined.”
Jefferson and Madison would be horrified to see America today.
The federal government spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much. We have a $19 trillion National Debt that is 104.5% of our nation’s Gross Domestic Product. You couldn’t get a mortgage if your debt-to-income ratio was above 43%. China owns a large percentage of our debt and we pay over $200 billion a year just on interest. Our national debt is a very serious problem that weakens us and threatens our nation’s future. I will never vote to increase the debt limit as has happened time and again.
I will be a strong supporter of keeping the size, cost and scope of the federal government in check, increasing government efficiency and personal liberty in the process.
